by Peter Graham

America Online told its subscribers in a report on Thursday that it is blocking about 780 million unwanted junk-email messages a day, or about 22 emails for each of its about 27 million accounts.

The company also said Version 8.0 subscribers are using the new "Report Spam" button about 4.1 million times a day.

Also in its report to subscribers, AOL (NYSE: AOL) said it will combat junk email by adding other anti-spam tools and upgrading its current tools. AOL also said it will lobby for tougher state and federal laws to combat spam and fraudulent email, sue more alleged spammers and lead a cooperative effort among government agencies and other Internet service providers and companies to crack down on junk and fraud email.
