Paco Sery: World's greatest drummer in South Africa

Paco Sery does what he does best

One of Africa's most gifted drummers, Paco Sery from the Ivory Coast, now a resident in Paris, arrived in the country a few days ago with his band the Paco Sery Group to perform in Melville Johannesburg as part of the Urban Voices International Arts Festival.

Sery has been defined as "The greatest drummer I played anywhere, anytime" by jazz man Joe Zawinul. He has toured and recorded with acclaimed musicians such as Nina Simone, Jaco Pastorius, Diane Reeves, Joe Zawinul, Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo and various others. This is his first performance in South Africa

Born and raised in the Ivory Coast he's back on the continent to offer the local music scene his best. Paco Sery says he enjoys the local crowd, but will soon have to leave them behind after two more nights of performing at Bassline, a popular jazz venue in Melville. The show ends tomorrow night.
