Technology and convenience go hand-in-hand. When the laptop computers first entered the market, people adored their convenience. No longer were they confined to a desktop. They could take a fully-functional computer on the go. But now portable computing has a new face--the tablet.
These days, when the time comes to purchase a new laptop computer, a number of people are taking the tablet into consideration. Of course, most people won\'t replace a laptop with a tablet entirely, but depending on their needs, they might opt for a tablet over a brand new laptop.
Let\'s look at the advantages and disadvantages of each device and you can decide which one best fits your needs.
Tablets
On the surface, there are a lot of advantages to using a tablet. They\'re lightweight (usually around 1 pound), they have good start-up speed, they have good battery life, and they\'re cheaper than most laptop computers. They can also perform a lot of the same common tasks including Web browsing, e-mail, social networking, as well as viewing or playing documents , photos, videos, and music.
Basically, tablets are smaller, simpler laptop computers. However, while they\'re great for the person on-the-go, they can be rather limiting. Tablets don\'t run programs--they run apps. So, if you need to be running a Web browser while plugging numbers into a massive spread sheet, you\'re going to have a problem. Also, as far as hardware is concerned, the touchscreen can be nifty, but it\'s not very conducive for people who need to type a lot.
Laptop Computers
Laptop computers are just that--computers. They come with full keyboards, large screens, and a much higher screen resolution than you would find on a tablet. For those who need raw computing power, a laptop is necessary. From the hardware to the software, the tablet is a long way from outshining the capabilities of a laptop.
However, as they say, bigger is not always better. With laptops weighing anywhere from 3-9 pounds, they can be a pain to carry around. Furthermore, while they were originally designed for portability, it\'s not very convenient to pull out a laptop in a crowded business meeting or public place. A tablet, on the other hand, can be used effortlessly in almost any situation.
The Laptop Computers In the end, it all boils down to your intended use. If you\'re in and out of meetings all day, a tablet may be all you need. Or if you\'re a student, a tablet can be much more convenient for note taking than a clunky laptop. However, if you\'re someone who is constantly working on big documents and require multiple programs and a physical keyboard, a laptop computer is the better choice. Once you figure out your needs, you\'ll be able to determine which device is best for you.
